Are plasma tv's going to be phased out? - plasma versus lcd tv

My friend told me yesterday that he was a plasma TV will be gradually eliminated. The source is a person who sold the television. I did research on the advantages and disadvantages of Plasma over LCD and never got over it. Is he just blowing smoke or there is some truth in your answer? If so, then why people actually buy? It simply makes no sense!
